The Mentoring Link

The AXIS Mentoring Link initiative is an innovative program which encourages and supports career transitions for internationally educated professionals and trades people.

Mentors provide insight on understanding Canada¡¯s workplace culture while helping identify the skills needed to be successful in today's knowledge-based economy.
Occupation-specific mentoring is an effective tool in providing access to information, professional counsel and networking opportunities. Mentoring newcomers improves access to employment prospects in their field of interest/expertise and offers the opportunity to become familiar with Canadian workplace culture.
The Mentoring Link

The overall objectives of the AXIS Mentoring Link are to:

  • provide newcomers with exposure to the Canadian labour market and information on their profession/trade in Canada;
  • establish linkages/contacts for future employment endeavours;
  • increase newcomers' occupationally relevant language competencies; and
  • reinforce the importance of linguistic competency for the Canadian labour market.

How It Works

The mentoring process involves partnering a more experienced Canadian worker with a skilled job seeker who is less familiar with the Canadian labour market and workplace culture. Participants are welcome from any profession or skilled trade and must meet standard eligibility criteria. Matches are made along occupation-specific lines between employed Canadian professionals or skilled trades persons and job-ready underemployed or unemployed newcomers. Mentoring Link includes training and orientation support provided through AXIS Career Services.
