Career Planning

AXIS provides support, information and referrals for internationally educated professionals who are seeking information about the process of having their international credentials assessed in Canada. One-on-one or group sessions are available to those seeking information on licensure requirements as well as official translation for international documentation. Clients can also take advantage of Advanced English Preparation Seminars to assist in bridging the transition to post secondary studies.

CareerEssentials

Canadian Employment Techniques for Internationally Educated Professionals and Trades People. Career Essentials  is an employment-readiness training program, incorporating one-on-one counselling and group seminars, to assist newcomers in preparing for the Canadian workplace. This program integrates nine essential skills, as identified by the Government of Canada, which provide participants with the expertise to participate successfully in a knowledgeable society and a global economy.

Working with Students

AXIS Career Services is a one-stop access point for local and national Labour Market Information for newcomers to Canada. Career Connections is a series of workshops which provide clients with detailed information and practical tools to help them make informed career decisions and to assist them in their job search.

 

 

 

OSLT

AXIS ensures that clients meet occupation standards by offering Sector-Specific Language Training for various professions and trades. Newcomers are introduced to specific terminology related to their field of expertise. OSLT recognizes the importance of continuous learning by helping newcomers meet occupational standards in both language and essential skill requirements, using interactive listening activities and current case studies. Whether developing a portfolio, preparing for a job interview or engaging in a work placement, Occupation-Specific Language Training will ensure that you have a solid group of information relevant to your field.

Portfolio

Portfolios can be used to demonstrate to employers that you have the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in a specific role. AXIS has developed a resource guide and offers scheduled group seminars followed by individual counselling to assist newcomers through the portfolio development process.

 

 

 

Mentoring

The AXIS Mentoring Link initiative is an innovative program which encourages and supports career transitions for internationally educated professionals and trades people. Occupation-specific mentoring is an effective tool in providing access to information, professional counselling and networking opportunities. Mentees have the opportunity to learn about the requirements for their field and gain an appreciation of their marketability from an employer's perspective. Mentoring newcomers improves access to employment prospects and offers the opportunity to become familiar with Canadian workplace culture.

Work Placements

STEP (Strategic Transitions & Employment Partnerships) is a collaborative opportunity where businesses host a skilled worker in an unpaid career placement for a minimum five week period. Employers gain access to skilled and motivated individuals who can address skill shortages while providing economic advantages to Newfoundland and Labrador. Newcomers are able to demonstrate their skills, knowledge and compentencies, gain relevant experience, build networks and enhance their marketability.

Services Intro

AXIS Career Services Internships are designed to accelerate labour market integration for clients through 12-week sponsored placements in the intern’s field of expertise.  An AXIS Internship provides a newcomer with an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities, network in their chosen profession and utilize occupation-specific language skills. Clients are pre-screened to ensure they have met all eligibility requirements and are job-ready. Career professionals are also available to answer any questions an employer may have prior to, during and upon completion of the internship. 

Services Intro

Networks is a job start program designed to help newcomers identify personal career goals, develop essential skills and increase self-confidence for successful entry into the Canadian workplace. A Job Coach assists participants in their search for employment through a series of workshops and targeted online activities.

 

 

 

Entrepreneur Handbook

Business Development Support Services provides current information and practical advice for newcomer entrepreneurs interested in starting their own business in Newfoundland and Labrador. Individual support from the Business Start-Up Coordinator and a resource kit has been developed to assist newcomers through developing their business plan. BDSS also links participants with networking opportunities within the business community and professional development organizations.

Resource Centre

AXIS Career Information Resource Centre (CIRC) provides a wealth of employment resources including job search tools, labour market information, and comprehensive data on college and university programs in Canada and abroad.

 

 

 

 

Health Care Professionals

The AXIS Community Link  provides Community Liaison Services for International Medical Graduates (IMGs) and health care professionals and their families.  Connecting with our communities improves access to employment prospects and offers the opportunity to become familiar with Canadian workplace culture.
