Over a period of six weeks, the FCR initiative at AXIS Career Services hosted a series of three workshops on increasing diversity in the workplace. Employers from all sectors attended the luncheons at the Capital Hotel in St. John’s, NL to learn more about several topics presented by a wide variety of guest speakers. Topics included: (i) Accelerating the Integration of International Professionals (ii) Integrating Cultural Differences on the Job Site (iii) Growing the Workforce Through Immigration (iv) Attracting & Retaining Highly Skilled Professionals (v) Expanding Into the Export Sector
AXIS Career Services teamed up with (SISO) Settlement and Integration Services Organization of Hamilton, Ontario to host the provincial launch of the Workplace Development Toolkit Project. Facilitators Gudelia Morency and Nabil Rashidi presented the toolkit during a breakfast meeting at the Battery Hotel in St. John’s.
AXIS Career Services hosted representatives from several community groups, organizations and public sector employers as part of our first Partnership Breakfast held in St. John’s on February 27, 2009.
AXIS Career Services participated with an exhibitor’s booth at the 2008 MNL Convention and Trade Show at the Pepsi Centre in Corner Brook, Oct. 9 -10, 2008. Representatives from several communities throughout the province were able to learn about our programs and services. The event was attended by Carla Foote, Marketing & Communications Coordinator, and Chittima Allen, Special Projects Coordinator.
“Homeward Bound” was the focus of a conference and trade show hosted by NLEC at the Delta Hotel in St. John’s. AXIS Career Services was invited to the trade show as an exhibitor and had the pleasure of delivering a presentation on our Bridge to Work programs.
AXIS Career Services participated with an exhibitor’s booth at the full day event on Oct. 1, 2008. Several international students and employers expressed interest in our programs and services. The event was attended by Carla Foote, Marketing & Communications Coordinator, Zheng Chen, Database Administrator, and Robert Bisson, Job Coach.
AXIS Career Services hosted a booth at Municipalities Newfoundland & Labrador (MNL) for their tradeshow in Gander. The tradeshow was held over November 5th and 6th 2009, and was attended during the two days by councilors from municipalities all over Newfoundland & Labrador. The Gander Chamber of Commerce and general public were also in attendance. It was an excellent platform to advertise our newly launched website, www.axiscareers.net and also to showcase our organization and services to the entire province. The event was attended by Carla Foote, Marketing & Communications Coordinator and Ross Houlihan, Entrepreneurial Coordinator.
AXIS Career Services, the Association for New Canadians, officially unveiled AXIScareers.net during a launch at the Comfort Inn Airport on October 9, 2009. Invited guests included government officials, employers, newcomers and AXIS staff. AXIS Marketing & Communications Coordinator Carla Foote opened the launch by welcoming guests and introducing ANC Executive Director Bridget Foster & AXIS Career Services Director Eileen Kelly-Freake. AXIS client Fanta Yao spoke to her recent success as an AXIS Intern, while the CFIB's Bradley George spoke of his involvement in the project through the FCR (Foreign Credential Recognition) Advisory Committee. Guests were invited to interact with the website and database through several demonstration stations, hosted by Database Administrator Di Wang, and AXIS staff members Chantelle Power, Ross Houlihan, Lori Byrne and Sheri Watkins.

AXIS Career Services hosted a booth at Memorial University's 2009 Career Fair for students. Marketing & Communications Coordinator, Carla Foote joined Database Administrator, Di Wang and Sheri Watkins, the AXIS Employment Development Officer. The Career Fair provided AXIS with the opportunity to present the programs available to International Students and their families at the Association for New Canadians.
As part of the Professional Series, AXIS Career Services hosted an Employer Breakfast as a thank-you to those who have supported the activities of the Foreign Credential Recognition (FCR) Initiative since its inception in June 2008. The breakfast was held at the Capital Hotel in St. John's and was attended by employers, municipal agencies and staff of the Association for New Canadians.
