AXIS Career Services spearheading internship program for skilled immigrants

AXIS Career Services is spearheading an innovative pilot program designed to provide internationally-trained professionals with a 12 week paid internship. This ground breaking initiative is part of the Foreign Credential Recognition (FCR) program of the Association for New Canadians. FCR will help employers tap into the large pool of skilled immigrants already in the province. "Interestingly, 97% of employers in the province who hire immigrants report a positive experience. Nearly three-quarters of employers agreed that a multicultural workforce enhances creativity in the workplace and that hiring international workers serves to improve export opportunities." (Wade Locke/Scott Lynch Economic Consulting, April 14, 2005.)

The FCR team has developed an Internship Pilot Program (IPP) which will provide an opportunity for highly skilled immigrants to gain Canadian work experience. The clients will be pre-screened to determine if they have met all eligibility requirements. The IPP Coordinator will be available for both the employer and the intern to answer any questions prior to, during and upon completion of the internship. AXIS Career Services is already developing an on-line Employer/Employee Matching Database, whereby employers can search for potential employees, while professionals can post resumes and search job advertisements.
