Abydoz Environmental
is a Newfoundland company offering solutions to improve the management of wastewater through natural, chemical free processes. Their engineered wetlands treat wastewater, storm water, and solid sewage, while preserving green spaces and creating a wetland ecosystem which can become part of a community's sustainability plan, and can also be enjoyed by wildlife. In recognition of their accomplishments, Abydoz and the towns of Appleton and Glenwood received the Environmental Award from PEGNL (Professional Engineers and Geoscientists Newfoundland and Labrador) in 2010. The natural technology Abydoz uses was first developed in Germany and has been implemented here in this province, and Abydoz has plans to move it across Canada, and around the globe. Continuing to bring an international approach to local business, Abydoz recently partnered with AXIS to hire an Environmental Engineer from China. Trends are just as common in the labour market as anywhere else, and looking ahead to potential skills shortages is important when deciding to pursue higher education. Presently, the apprenticeship trades are particularly in need of more skilled workers—this presents great opportunities for newcomers looking to retrain. The apprenticeship process is a collaborative endeavour, and the relationship built between the employer and apprentice is invaluable. The dedicated effort of both parties strongly reflects the AXIS mandate, and we have been pleased to work with Hubley’s Plumbing & Heating to help a first year apprentice originally from Eritrea take his initial steps along this new career path.
