On Friday. October 9th AXIS Career Services officially introduced this website and Skills Matching Database to Newfoundland and Labrador. An official launch party was held at the Comfort Inn Airport in St. John's, Newfoundland. The event began with an unveiling of a promotional video for the website, featuring photos of clients from the Association for New Canadians (ANC), which can be viewed in our Media section. Over 50 people attended including federal, provincial, and municipal government officials, members of the FCR Advisory Committee, clients, employers, regional economic development boards, university faculty, staff and members of the media. AXIS Marketing and Communications Coordinator, Carla Foote, opened with an introduction of guest speakers. Eileen Kelly-Freake, AXIS Career Services Director, welcomed all participants and provided an overview of the FCR project and its success to date. ANC Executive Director, Bridget Foster, spoke to the tremendous work carried out by the AXIS staff and the advantages the website and skills matching database will provide to newcomers. Bradley George of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, a member of the FCR Advisory Committee, who spoke on how beneficial the online recruitment tool will be to employers in the province and how he played a role as a committee member overseeing the FCR Initiative. Fanta Yao, a newcomer and AXIS Intern spoke of her experience at the ANC and how she was able to successfully complete a sponsored internship through AXIS Career Services. AXIS Database Administrator Di Wang provided an overview of the website and skills matching database, with an exhibit display of AXIScareers.net. At conclusion of the presentation, guests were encouraged to attend to three demonstration stations to interact live with AXIScareers.net, assisted by staff from AXIS Career Services. AXIS Career Services, a division of the Association for New Canadians, is proud to unveil a ground breaking Skills Matching Database and website for employers and newcomers to Newfoundland and Labrador. This is the first online tool of its kind in the province designed to specifically match newcomers with employers. The Foreign Credential Recognition (FCR) Team of AXIS has spent the past 14 months developing a website that is both user-friendly and innovative in creating opportunities for immigrants and local business in Newfoundland and Labrador.
