Personalized Support

Once you create your Job Seeker profile, a Career Practitioner will meet with you to complete a comprehensive assessment of your needs, identify your goals, and discuss your skills and qualifications.

Once you have identified your career and employment goals, your Career Practitioner will help you determine your career pathway, explore alternative careers, and develop a step-by-step action plan.

AXIS collaborates with a wide range of employers throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

Career Practitioners help match job-ready newcomers with

current opportunities.

Career Practitioners are able to discuss post-secondary programs and/or academic upgrading opportunities that are available throughout NL.

Career Practitioners provide support, information and referrals for internationally educated professionals who are navigating the process of having their international credentials assessed in Canada.

Pre-Employment Skills Development Training

The Networks Job Start program is designed to help you identify your personal career goals, develop essential skills, and increase your self-confidence for successful entry into the Canadian workplace. In addition to completing a series of group workshops, a Job Coach will assist you with your search for employment.

The Workforce Connections program provides practical tools and information to help job seekers with obtaining an entry-level position in their chosen field of study. In addition to receiving one-on-one support, you will also be provided the opportunity to participate in customized group workshops:

  • Career Connections (8 sessions over a 4 week time frame)
  • Job Options (2 full days) Designed to help you with learning about Canadian workplace culture and enhancing your interpersonal communication skills.
  • Note: These workshops are a prerequisite for participation in AXIS Bridge-to-Work Programs.

The Career Essentials e-Learning and e-Mentoring Program is Newfoundland and Labrador's first comprehensive online pre-employment training program for Internationally Trained Workers (ITWs) living in NL. Designed to meet the needs and demands of today's job seekers, Career Essentials is fully available online and offers participants an accessible, self-directed approach to learning.

While completing the program, participants are directly connected to an Employment Counsellor who monitors their progress and provides feedback on all activities that are submitted.

The program aims to help newcomers develop the knowledge, skills, confidence and competencies needed for success in the local job market. To participate in the Career Essentials e-Learning and e-Mentoring Program, please register as a Job Seeker with AXIS or contact your AXIS Career Practitioner.

One-on-one financial coaching and group sessions are available for newcomers who want to learn more about managing their money in Canada.

Atlantic Immigrant Career Loan Fund

Are you an internationally trained immigrant living in Atlantic Canada? Do you need financial support completing training courses? The Atlantic Immigrant Career Loan Fund may be for you!

  • Registration fees
  • Licensing and examination fees
  • Training, tuition fees, related text books or online resources
  • Living expenses (during exams or a specific training)
  • Travel and accommodation expenses to complete exams and courses
To be eligible for the AICLF you must:
  • Be an immigrant with Canadian citizenship or a permanent resident status
  • Live in Atlantic Canada (NS, NB, PEI or NL)
  • Have received training or certification outside of Canada
  • Have the required English or French skills to complete an employment plan
  • Not have an undischarged bankruptcy
